Relief check coming in Maine
Who gets the 4th stimulus check, The Mills administration launched a website, Maine.gov/reliefchecks, on Friday, April 22. People may go there to seek answers concerning payments. Among the important details to be aware of are:
Eligibility is contingent on submitting a 2021 Maine individual income tax return as a full-time Maine resident by October 31, 2022.
Those who qualify must have a federal adjusted gross income of less than $100,000 if filing single or married and filing separately, $150,000 if filing as head of household, or $200,000 if filing jointly.
Notably, in contrast to many other stimulus initiatives, including those at the federal level? Maine’s attempt here, initiated by Mills and approved by the state legislature almost unanimously, is funded by a state surplus.
These relief check payments are intended to refund half of Maine’s budget surplus ($729.3 million) to “an estimated 858,000 Maine citizens coping with the higher expenditures as a consequence of pandemic-driven inflation,” according to the governor’s office.
